Unscripted
A rare collection of images of Usain Bolt 2004-2011 by photographer Karen Fuchs are brought together for the exhibition Unscripted. This exhibition was supported by Arts Futures and is introduced by Sports Journalist and Senior Writer at Runner’s World Magazine Kerry McCarthy.
Candid, colourful and charismatic, this photographic journey showcases Fuch’s portraiture skills at their best. We travel through an intense few years with the subject, Bolt, from gangly teenager to Olympic champion. The collection gives us a glimpse of his essence: “a young guy almost unaware of his prodigious talent but also with a healthy lust for life” as McCarthy puts it. This situates Fuchs work between documentary photography and mediated narrative, prompting us to stop and wonder what it means to achieve exceptional greatness today.
