The Mechanics of Art (3-Dimensional Creativity)

This course will run for 8 Saturdays: 15th, 22nd, 29th April, 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th May and 10th June. Please note, there will be no session on the 3rd June. 

This exciting new course provides a detailed introduction to the world of paper manipulation and pop-up transforming the two-dimensional page into three-dimensional form. You will develop your skills in ‘drawing with paper’ considering colour and shape to design your 3D sculptural Artist’s Book or a 3D ‘Mobile Gallery’. 

You will be guided in idea generation and illustration skills to transform your chosen individual story or theme from 2D to a 3D creative wonder. Through learning layout, paper folding and safe paper cutting techniques you will produce a range of pop-up mechanisms and structural pages that will perform as an illustrated sculpture when opened. Silhouette and shape will be considered in visualizing your ideas and bringing your pages to life. 

Developed for artists aged 11 to 14 years, this course will introduce you to paper and card construction techniques where you consider the 3D structural possibilities. You will learn how tabs, slits and flaps can make moving elements in your work with a fun and imaginative twist!
