Them and Us/Land to Sea

The text +work exhibition introduces two substantial bodies of work by British artist Richard William Wheater Them and Us (2009) and Land to Sea (2012). He uses performance and Installation to discuss our relationship with the natural environment. The exhibition ran in conjunction with the Bournemouth Arts by the sea festival 2012.

Wheater works predominantly with that most fragile of material, glass. Wheater turns glass to his advantage, revels in its brittleness – ultimately producing work that is elegant, delicate and transitory; work that is informed and strengthened by a series of apparently futile acts.

The publication features an essay by Peter Bonnell, the curator, who thoughtfully describes Wheater’s work and process.
